CARE International Indonesia, an international Non-Government Organization, is implementing Recovery Programme in the Tsunami hit areas of Banda Aceh, Aceh Besar and Simeulue. The programme aims to rehabilitate tsunami affected population of the three districts. CARE International Indonesia is presently seeking the following positions to be based in
TPO – TECHNICAL INFRASTRUCTURE, WATSAN
MAIN PURPOSE:
The Technical Officer is responsible for researching, testing and recommending watsan options, marketing and training on the options with the team and then to help the target communities with contracting and technical construction. The Officer must have excellent research, testing and training skills plus and understanding of various watsan technologies available. Experience working with community, NGO and/or government agency on similar topics is key. In addition, the Officer must be highly organized, pro-active, with superb creativity and understanding of watsan health topics and the benefits of new technologies of techniques. The position requires the ability to work long hours when required.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Conduct pilots on technical and social compatibility of new or unfamiliar watsan technologies, analyze findings and recommend short list of options; · Research outside or innovative watsan technologies which might be suitable for the Aceh context, by working with other NGOs and agencies; · Duties will include creating a watsan technical manual of options and other materials for the communities to introduce options for their choosing; · Work with staff team to raise awareness on technical watsan options in the community and to assist in implementation via construction and contracting new systems with community. · Other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· At least 3 years of experience in humanitarian sector, preferably in watsan technical fields, construction, research, testing and training.
· University degree in Engineering, Hydrology or other water-related technologies subject.
· Excellent public communication, research and training skills.
· Knowledge of various environmental and personal health issues related to water and sanitation.
· Proficiency in English with an ability to prepare documents/reports of high quality.
· Awareness of water and sanitation challenges in Aceh as applied to a development settings, with special attention to the needs of women and children.
